Baylor hired former North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora as its next offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, the school announced Saturday.
Fedora, 57, spent last season as an analyst for the University of Texas. He compiled a 45-43 record at North Carolina from 2012-18 but was fired after his teams posted 3-9 and 2-9 records in his last two seasons in Chapel Hill. His Tar Heels made four bowl appearances.
He joins the staff of new Bears coach Dave Aranda, the former LSU defensive coordinator who was hired last week to replace Matt Rhule. Rhule left Waco to become head coach of the NFL's Carolina Panthers.
"I'm excited about Coach Fedora joining our staff as offensive coordinator," Aranda said. "Larry has a track record of explosive, prolific offenses. He will do a great job of spreading the ball around and making the defense have to defend every blade of grass. He will maximize our playmakers and put them in space to create mismatches. He is a great motivator and a former head coach that I will rely on for advice. I'm excited about working with him and maximizing our offense's potential."
--Miami defensive end Scott Patchan has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Starkel began his college career at Texas AM (2016-18) and Arkansas (2019). A graduate transfer, he can play immediately and has one year of eligibility remaining. He announced his decision to transfer on Dec. 13, just days after former Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman was hired as the Razorbacks' head coach.
Starkel redshirted at Texas AM in 2016 and played in 11 games (five starts) over the next two seasons. He tallied 1,962 yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions with the Aggies, and he set the Texas AM bowl game record with for 499 yards and four touchdowns in a 55-52 loss to Wake Forest in the Belk Bowl in 2017.
