Dallas Cowboys assistant defensive line coach Leon Lett was carted off the practice field Wednesday with what multiple reports indicated was a right leg injury.
The injury occurred early in practice, but it wasn't immediately clear what caused it.
Lett, 52, has been a Cowboys assistant coach since 2011. He played for Dallas from 1991 to 2000 and was a member of three Super Bowl-winning teams.
The 6-foot-6 defensive tackle is best remembered for two high-profile gaffes, despite his two Pro Bowl selections. Late in Super Bowl XXVII in 1993, Lett recovered a fumble and was headed toward the end zone. When he started to showboat, Buffalo Bills receiver Don Beebe knocked the ball out of his hands for a touchback. The play didn't impact the outcome of the game.
Later that year, on Thanksgiving Day, the Cowboys were leading the Miami Dolphins 14-13 with 15 seconds on the clock. After the Cowboys blocked the Dolphins field goal attempt, instead of not touching the ball, Lett tried to pick it up and slipped, sending the ball into the end zone, where the Dolphins recovered it. Miami was given the ball on the one-yard line and won after a successful field goal try.
