The Edmonton Oilers reached agreement Tuesday on a three-year contract to keep Jay Woodcroft as head coach on a permanent basis.
Financial terms were not announced by the club.
Woodcroft, 45, was named interim coach on Feb. 10 and finished the season 26-9-3, guiding the Oilers to the Western Conference finals, where they lost to the Colorado Avalanche. Woodcroft succeeded Dave Tippett.
Woodcroft was coaching Edmonton's AHL affiliate at Bakersfield, Calif., before the promotion. He led the Condors to the AHL championship in 2020-21.
Woodcroft previously worked as an assistant with the Oilers under Todd McLellan. He was named the head coach of the Condors in 2018. The Toronto native also was a video coach with the Detroit Red Wings (2005-08) and an assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks (2008-15).
