A 27-6 scoring margin in the third quarter propelled Nebraska to a Women's NCAA Tournament First Four victory against Richmond 75-56 in Durham, N.C., on Wednesday.
In a battle of No. 11 seeds, Britt Prince scored 10 of her team-high 22 points in the decisive third period as the Cornhuskers (19-12) built a 61-38 lead going into the fourth.
Callin Hake finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists for Nebraska, while Petra Bozan chipped in eight points and six boards. The Cornhuskers outshot the Spiders 56.9% to 39.6%, going 50% (11 of 22) from 3-point range compared to the Spiders' 17.4% (4 of 23).
That dominance was less apparent in the first half, when Nebraska built a 10-point advantage but saw that evaporate in the second quarter. A pair of free throws by Maggie Doogan -- the game's top scorer with 24 -- pulled the Spiders (26-8) within 34-32 entering the break.
The Cornhuskers quickly responded. Prince capped a 17-0 run to open the third with a 3-pointer that made the score 51-32 with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter.
Nebraska will next face No. 6 seed Baylor on Friday in a Sacramento 2 Region game at Durham.
