There was one upsetting development, but late good news for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.
Early in the day, the team announced that forward Jaden McDaniels will be out week-to-week with a left knee injury -- patella tendinopathy and a bone bruise.
However, Anthony Edwards, the NBA's third-leading scorer who has missed the last six games with a right knee injury, has been listed as available to play in Monday night's game at Dallas.
McDaniels, a model of consistency in six seasons with the Wolves, suffered the injury late in the March 25 overtime win vs. Houston and did not play in Minnesota' loss to Detroit on Saturday. McDaniels tallied 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting vs. the Rockets.
He was averaging a career-best 14.8 points per game --third-best on the team -- and posting highs in field goal percentage (51.8%), 3-point percentage (42.1%) and assists per game (2.7).
McDaniels played in and started all 82 games in 2024-25 and has played no fewer than 70 games in each of the past five seasons. He averages 11.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 437 contests (361 starts) and is regarded as the team's premier perimeter defender.
Edwards has been absent for 16 of 74 games this season and would be ineligible for any postseason awards with another missed game. He is averaging 29.5 points per game and also has been shooting at a personal-best clip this season-- hitting 49.2% from the floor and 40.2% from beyond the arc.
The duo has been teammates for six years. Edwards was the first overall pick by the Timberwolves in the 2020 draft, while McDaniels went to the Lakers later in the first round but was traded twice in the next few days.
Minnesota and Houston are tied for fifth place in the Western Conference with records of 45-29. They trail Denver by two games and are four games clear of seventh-place Phoenix.
