The Arizona Diamondbacks placed first baseman Carlos Santana on the 10-day injured list with a strained right adductor and purchased the contract of first baseman Luken Baker from Triple-A Reno.
To make room for Baker on the 40-man roster, infielder/outfielder Jordan Lawlar was transferred to the 60-day injured list with a fractured right wrist.
Santana, who turns 40 on Wednesday, had been removed from Sunday's 6-5 home victory over the Atlanta Braves with what was diagnosed as right groin tightness. In his first season in Arizona, Santana was just 2-for-24 (.083) through eight games with eight strikeouts.
The move to the injured list is retroactive to Monday.
Over 17 major league seasons, including 11 seasons in Cleveland, Santana is a career .240 hitter with a .775 OPS, 335 home runs and 1,136 RBIs.
Baker, 29, was batting .242 with one home run and five RBIs in nine games at Reno. In parts of three seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (2023-25), Baker batted .206 with four home runs and 22 RBIs in 73 games.
Lawlar, 23, was hit by a pitch in Thursday's home game against the Atlanta Braves and was diagnosed with a fracture. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks.
Lawlar was batting .333 (6-for-18) with a home run and two RBIs over his first six games of the season.
