Phillies place LHP Kyle Backhus (elbow) on injured list

The Phillies placed left-hander Kyle Backhus on the 15-day injured list Thursday with elbow inflammation.

Philadelphia recalled right-hander Trevor Richards from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding transaction.

Backhus, 28, has no decisions and a 4.66 ERA in 10 appearances (one start) in his first season with the Phillies.

Richards, 32, is 1-0 with three saves and a 1.93 ERA in nine relief appearances at Lehigh Valley this season.
