Heriberto Hernandez hit a walk-off grand slam Sunday afternoon for the Miami Marlins, who completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets with a 4-0 win.
Christopher Morel led off the ninth against Devin Williams (3-2) by doubling over leaping third baseman Brett Baty. Pinch-runner Esteury Ruiz moved to third on a bunt by Javier Sanoja before Liam Hicks worked a walk. Xavier Edwards was intentionally walked before Hernandez homered just beyond the right-center-field fence for his first career walk-off RBI.
Hernandez, who singled as a pinch-hitter for Owen Caissie in the seventh, and Edwards had two hits apiece as the Marlins earned their first sweep since they opened the season by winning three straight against the Colorado Rockies.
Pete Fairbanks (2-2) allowed one hit and one walk in the ninth, when Hicks threw out pinch-runner Nick Morabito trying to steal second and Fairbanks struck out Carson Benge to strand Luis Torrens at first.
A.J. Ewing had two hits for the Mets, who were limited to two runs on 11 hits in the series and have been outscored 28-14 while losing five of their last six games.
The Marlins walked it off long after both starters departed following season-long outings.
The Marlins' Tyler Phillips gave up two hits and two walks while striking out four over 3 2/3 innings in his initial start of the season and his first since last Sept. 7.
The Mets' Christian Scott allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five over 5 2/3 innings. Scott remained winless in 15 big league starts dating back to 2024.
The Marlins mounted the lone serious threat before the ninth. The teams were scoreless in their first 13 at-bats with runners in scoring position before Ewing, the Mets' center fielder preserved the tie in the seventh, when he threw out Sanoja trying to score from second on Edwards' single off Brooks Raley.
