The Boston Red Sox placed utility infielder Nick Sogard on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a right oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox recalled utility infielder Anthony Seigler, 26, from Triple-A Worcester.
Sogard, 28, last played on Saturday, going 0-for-2 in a 9-1 road win at Cleveland. The switch hitter began feeling soreness in his right side over the weekend and could not bat from the left side, according to reports.
He is batting .257 (9-for-35) with two RBIs in 12 games. For his career, he is batting .264 with 19 RBIs in 73 games over parts of three seasons.
Seigler was a first-round pick (23rd overall) by the New York Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft. He signed with the Milwaukee Brewers as a free agent in November 2024 and was traded to Boston along with infielders Caleb Durbin and Andruw Monasterio on Feb. 9 for infielder David Hamilton and left-handers Shane Drohan and Kyle Harrison.
Seigler batted .194 (12-for-62) in 34 games last season as a rookie with the Brewers. He was hitting .298 with three home runs, 21 RBIs, a .425 on-base percentage and .471 slugging percentage at Worcester.
