A.J. Ewing scored two runs and drove in a pair in his MLB debut, sparking the host New York Mets to a 10-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
Called up from Triple-A Syracuse, Ewing had an RBI triple and drew three walks, one with the bases loaded. He also stole a base. Carson Benge and Juan Soto each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Freddy Peralta (3-3) gave up two runs and struck out seven in six innings. Catcher Francisco Alvarez was removed in the sixth due to a right knee injury.
Dillon Dingler had a solo homer for Detroit, which has lost six of its last seven. Jack Flaherty (0-3) gave up three runs in 3 2/3 innings.
The Tigers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Dingler pulled a curveball over the left field fence to lead off the inning. Wenceel Perez followed with a single and Gage Workman smacked a double to put runners in scoring position. Spencer Torkelson hit a sacrifice fly to score Perez.
The Mets got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. MJ Melendez drew a leadoff walk and Brett Baty followed with a single. One out later, Ewing drew a walk to load the bases. Melendez scored on Alvarez's fielder's choice grounder.
New York tied the score on consecutive singles by Bo Bichette, Soto and Mark Vientos in the third and took their first lead in the fourth. Alvarez had a one-out double and scored on Benge's single.
The Mets extended their lead to 6-2 in the sixth. Ewing walked and stole second. Luis Torrens also walked and Benge reached on an infield single to lead the bases. Bichette hit a bouncer to third baseman Workman, who made an errant throw as two runs scored. Soto's groundout knocked in the other run.
Ewing's two-out triple to right in the seventh knocked in Baty. Torrens then singled to bring home Ewing for an 8-2 lead.
New York added two more runs in the eighth.
