Tyler Herro hit two key 3-pointers, Bam Adebayo recorded a 23-point, 16-rebound double-double in a head-to-head with Joel Embiid and the Miami Heat came on strong down the stretch to turn back the visiting Philadelphia 76ers 119-109 on Monday night.
Herro finished with a game-high 30 points and Pelle Larsson added 20 for the Heat (40-36), who moved into a virtual eighth-place tie in the Eastern Conference with Orlando.
Embiid had a team-high 26 points and Tyrese Maxey 23 for the 76ers (41-34), who remained in seventh place in the East but saw their lead over the Heat and Magic cut to 1 1/2 games.
After falling behind by 15 points late in the third quarter, the 76ers rallied into a 104-101 lead on a 3-pointer by Maxey with 5:33 left.
An Embiid 3-pointer increased the Philadelphia lead to four at the 3:22 mark, but the Heat, playing the second night of a back-to-back, dominated from there.
After an Adebayo dunk got Miami within two, Herro gave the hosts the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 2:36 remaining, then lengthened the advantage to 111-107 with 2:08 to go on another long-range connection.
Hoops by Jaime Jaquez Jr., Larsson and Herro completed a 14-0 run that broke the game open late.
Jaquez totaled 14 points, as did Andrew Wiggins, for the Heat, who were coming off a 135-118 loss at Indiana on Sunday that was the seventh loss in their last eight games.
Adebayo also supplied a team-high six assists, while Larsson completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The Heat outrebounded the visitors 57-42 en route to capturing the season series and a potentially important tiebreaker, 2-1.
Maxey complemented his 23 points with seven rebounds and a game-high nine assists for the 76ers, who had won two in a row.
Kelly Oubre Jr. had a double-double off the bench for Philadelphia with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Paul George added 19 points, VJ Edgecombe 13 and Quentin Grimes 11.
